RICE MAGAZINE’S MISSION STATEMENT
Rice Magazine is the flagship publication of Rice University, published quarterly by the Office of Public Affairs. In each issue, we showcase Rice’s teaching, research and creative achievements — along with the always interesting people who make up the Rice community — through storytelling that is credible, creative and compelling.
We strive to report from the ground up wherever possible — from the labs, classrooms, workplaces, homes or communities of our readers. In each issue, we feature stories about the head, hands and heart of the university community, in its largest sense. We want to include stories about where we live as an institution and community of faculty and staff — the complex and burgeoning city of Houston and its environs extending out to the world in which in our students, faculty and alumni are making an impact.
We seek the highest standards in writing, editing, design and photography. Our ultimate goal is to build appreciation of and support for Rice. We do not publish class notes in Rice Magazine, as they are published online and twice a year in print in the Owlmanac, which is mailed to alumni, faculty and friends.
With a circulation close to 60,000, our audience is primarily university alumni, but also staff, faculty, parents of students, donors and other community members. There is no membership, dues or subscription required for receiving the Rice Magazine. Rice Magazine also has no external advertising.
